Presentation

  1. Fidgeting
  2. Restless
  3. Careless mistakes

Inattention Symptoms

  1. Careless mistakes
  2. Difficulty in maintaining concentration
  3. Appearing not to listen
  4. Failing to follow instructions/finish a task
  5. Difficulty in organizing tasks
  6. Avoid tasks that require mental effort
  7. Losing items
  8. Easily distracted
  9. Forgetful with regards to daily tasks

Hyperactivity Symptoms

  1. Fidgeting/tapping hand/feet
  2. Leaving seat when expected to remain seated
  3. Running/climbing/restless
  4. Inability to play/rest quietly
  5. Being “on the go”
  6. Talking excessively
  7. Answering before question has been completed
  8. Difficulty waiting for her turn
  9. Interrupting others

Explore

  1. Social – work, education Substance abuse
  2. Mood
  3. Self-injury

Management-adults:

Refer to mental health specialist-specialized in ADHD

Medication:

If symptoms are affecting QoL even after environmental modifications, amfetamine will be prescribed CBT

Advice

  1. Medication might make you sleepy/dizzy/blurred vision, be cautious not to drive
  2. Keep you prescription with you at all times as it is an offence to drive and take amf
  3. Diet and excersize
  4. Follow up to monitor BP, weight etc…

Diagnostic Criteria

  1. At least 5 inattention and 5 hyperactivity symptoms
  2. Started before the age of 12
  3. Lasted for 6 months
  4. Symptoms present in 2 different settings
